I attended my first holiday brunch last weekend. On the table was a cheeseball, rolled in sliced almonds, and dressed up like a turkey. That can only mean one thing: we’re into the Holidays. Or, for some, the Holidaze.

I’d like to consider that we stop the craziness to think about connection. I know that’s a nice planet I live on…yet read on a moment.

During a recent couples session, Husband/Dad said, “We’ve got a great quality of life, live in a beautiful place, have three wonderful kids, and we’re too stressed out to enjoy any of it.”

Wife/Mom added, “I remember when we talked about having a family. We said we have so much love to share. We were so connected. Everything we’re now stressed about came out of love and connection.”

As you know, I have the best clients ever. And because of that, I’m often blown away by their comments. How often that statement is true for many of us! How often is everything we’re now stressed out about related to an original sense of love and connection?

Thinking about this, I reflected on one of the most powerful ways of connecting to one another. One of the greatest gifts that comes with our lives is the gift of the human voice.

Each one of our human voices is unique, and each one brings to a listener it’s own ability to comfort, reassure, challenge, and laugh.

As my nephew says “Do you.” That is really true when it comes to the human voice. The image shared in this post reminds me of the uniqueness of each of our voices, be they verbal, non-verbal, or described through music, dance and art.

Today I want to share this thought- knowing that it is talking about the human voice specifically, yet also embraces all forms of genuine communication.

“Our voice resonates with life. Because this is so, it can touch the lives of others. The caring and compassion imbued in your voice finds passage to the listener’s soul, striking his or her heart and causing it to sing out; the human voice summons something profound from deep within, and can even compel a person into action.”
-Daisaku Ikeda

Let’s use our unique voices and expressions to make this a holiday season – and all of our seasons – ones that are filled with connection.
